Positions You Vote For

In a general election, Kenyans vote for leaders at different levels. Each position has a distinct role.

President

National

Head of state and government; appoints Cabinet; represents Kenya internationally.

Governor

County (47 counties)

Heads the county government; oversees county health, roads, agriculture, and development.

Senator

County

Represents the county in the Senate; oversight of county government; participates in national legislation affecting counties.

Women Representative

County

Represents women and marginalised groups in the National Assembly; promotes gender and special interest issues.

Member of Parliament (MP)

Constituency (290 constituencies)

Represents the constituency in the National Assembly; legislation; oversight of national government; CDF.

Member of County Assembly (MCA)

Ward (1,450 wards)

Represents the ward in the County Assembly; legislation and oversight at county level; ward development.
